What makes an online crossword easier to use with painful hands?

I am posting on behalf of Bible for Soul. We have a free Bible crossword in English, and I would like to ask about using this kind of game when finger joints are painful. For people here who enjoy word puzzles, what makes entering answers less awkward? Would you rather select a square and type, or say the answers while someone else fills them in? I am asking about comfort and controls. I cannot say whether this game is suitable for any particular person, and I would welcome comments about things that make you stop using a puzzle.
